Every Vote will Count

In my recent poll, there are of the 37 voters at the time of this writing, 26 voting mostly or completely Democratic, 7 voting mostly or completely Republican, and 1 voting evenly split. What is most worrisome, though, are the 3 voters that are either undecided or will not be voting on Tuesday. My readership obviously leans to the left, unlike the general populous of the state.

According to several polls, Claire McCaskill and her Republican opponent for the Missouri Senate Seat are neck-and-neck.

And, as Brian Wahby, Chairman of the St. Louis City Democratic Central Committee, is fond of reciting, in the 2004 race for the same seat, Jean Carnahan lost by the equivalent of 2 votes per precinct.

So, it is clear that in this highly contested race, every vote will count. It is not only a right to vote, but a responsibility of our democracy that every eligible voter excercise his or her franchise. Don't forget to vote, don't get too busy to vote, don't think your vote won't matter. No excuses: GO VOTE!

A couple of things to remember when you go to vote:
  • You don't need a state-issued photo ID, but you do need either your voter card (mailed to you in the last week or so) or a utility bill showing your name and your address.
  • You won't be able to vote a straight ticket, as in the past, by selecting the party of your choice. You will need to vote for each office.

The lines at my polling place were bigger today than I have ever witnessed. I have spoken to many STL city and STL county people today who agree with me. I am happy to see the turn out.

What I heard was that the City Board of Elections compared this turnout to a Presidential year. It is ovbious that the Board needs to buy additional touch-screen machines. The saving grace this election was the availability of paper/scannable ballots.
